A stone fireplace, a pellet stove, a round table for four and a sofa bed. Warm and cosy in winter, while the thick walls keep it pleasantly cool in summer.
A stone house in a medieval hilltop village, with a fireplace, a kitchen hearth, a flower-filled balcony and views over a green valley. Your home in Italy.
43°57′ N · 10°42′ EThe Medieval Corner is a rustic stone house on Piazza del Castello, in the highest part of Aramo. It was fully renovated in February 2020. We kept what makes it special, the stone walls, the timber ceiling beams, the brick arches and the terracotta floors, and added everything you need for a comfortable stay.
You have the whole house, about 100 m², to yourselves, for up to 6 guests. After a day of exploring, relax by the fireplace with a glass of wine, and start the morning with coffee on the flower-filled balcony. Keen cooks will find a fully equipped kitchen with a real open hearth.

A brick arch leads into the kitchen, which has a gas hob, an oven, a coffee machine, a moka pot and a full set of cookware. The dining corner has a traditional Tuscan hearth.

A wrought-iron double bed under timber beams, antique bedside tables with lamps, a chest of drawers and a large wardrobe. The windows look out onto the stone lanes of Aramo. There is a TV in the room.

A bright room with two single beds and a window looking out over the green valley, with a wardrobe and a TV.

A bathroom with shower, toilet, bidet and washbasin. A hairdryer, towels and toiletries for every guest are provided.

A second, separate toilet with a washbasin. With six guests, nobody has to queue in the morning.

By the front door there is a little balcony with a table and chairs, surrounded by window boxes full of flowers. It is the perfect spot for a morning espresso with cantucci or an evening glass of wine, looking out over the stone houses of Aramo.

Aramo is one of ten medieval hill villages, known as the castella, scattered across the green hills of the Valleriana in northern Tuscany. Its stone houses huddle together up to the top of the hill, where the church of San Frediano and its bell tower stand. From the walls you look down into the Torbola valley and across range after range of hills.
In the fifteenth century Aramo sat on the border between Lucca and Florence and saw bitter fighting. Today it is utterly peaceful. Cars stay below the walls and you get around the narrow lanes and steps on foot. In autumn and winter the mountains glow with colour, and on clear days the peaks are dusted with snow. In spring and summer the air is full of birdsong and the scent of herbs and flowers.
The whole valley is called the Svizzera Pesciatina, the Switzerland of Pescia. The name comes from the Swiss historian Sismondi, who found the landscape so like his Alpine homeland that he settled here. Everyone finds peace and quiet here.

Food lovers can taste regional specialities, and cooking workshops can be arranged on request. The best produce is close by:

A footpath links all the castella of the valley through chestnut and oak woods, and the full route takes about six hours. Stop at the Paper Museum in Pietrabuona, at Sorana with its IGP-protected beans, at fan-shaped San Quirico and at Pontito, the highest of them all.
